Why such a strange name?
The company got its name after Marcus Vitruvius Pollio. He was a Roman architect, civil engineer and author. He is most famous for his work called De Architectura.
Leonardo da Vinci based his famous Vitruvian Man on the writings of Vitruvius; the drawing that is often used as a symbol of the essential symmetry of human beings, and as such, the Universe as a whole.
It is no wonder that the founder of this company was highly impressed with the writings of this remarkable man, and thus decided to name his company Vitruvian Home - A home that is Solid, Useful, and Beautiful all at once.
In this book he said that a structure should exhibit three qualities: Firmitas, Utilitas, Venustas; meaning that they should be solid, useful and beautiful.
Much of what we know about Roman architecture - such as the aqueduct, many surveying instruments and even one of the first instances of central heating - can be attributed to Vitruvius' writings. He was also the father of architectural acoustics and much more.
